Founder / Creative Director: ROAR Creative Consulting Agency
Selena (Cree, French Canadian-Settler | She/Her) is a direct descendant of the Woodland Cree peoples of Lac Laronge, Treaty 6. A people and purpose-driven shapeshifter-interdisciplinary, she’s a mama-bear to two magnificent humans, with a partner who is a loving and supportive central fire-keeper holding steadfast for the ride. Sister, friend and community-centred; she is currently Lead of Health Transformation & Strategic Communications for The Centre For WISE Practices in Indigenous Health at Women’s College Hospital.
As Owner/Creative Director of ROAR Creative Agency, Selena is passionate about elevating First Nations, Inuit and Métis stories, leadership, perspectives and voices in healthcare, education, community and digital media, and nurturing Indigenous-led partnerships. A Digital Publishing Awards & National Magazine Awards nominated writer and editor Selena has been producing content for acclaimed publications for over 15 years (CBC, Babble Media, Disney, United Way’s Local Love, Today’s Parent, The Mighty, Quill & Quire), she strives to build bridges renegade style, self-taught in artful practices and digital illustration.
Mentored by other Indigenous trailblazers across industries and communities, Selena applies strengths-based governance frameworks to all initiatives she collaborates on. In her current healthcare and education leadership role during these Covidien times, Selena works to close health gaps experienced by systemically marginalized, neglected and targeted groups.
Clearly, she doesn’t like rules, and advocates for action by implementing anti-racism and cultural safety training education—cornerstones to culturally safe care and self-determined institutional transformation—as core principles connected to her endeavours.
